Summer Music PDX: July 22nd- 26th, 2019

About our program

If you're looking for a summer day camp for your music student, this is the program for you!
We are a day camp for strings, woodwinds, and vocal students ages 7-16. We will spend a fun & inspiring week working in small and large ensembles, improving our note reading skills, and making new friends through fun team building games and activities.

Your child will be inspired, motivated, and have a wonderful time with other musicians at camp. Some of the things that makes our camp unique and a favorite for students and parents alike are:

  • Fun music from a mix of styles & genres.
  • An opportunity to play in ensembles with strings, vocalists and woodwinds combined.
  • Mixed ages so mentoring between students is a big part of the magic that happens and benefits both the younger, and more experienced, students alike.
  • Great instructors focused on helping each student succeed and improve.
  • A good mix of playing music and having fun social activities that create a wonderful community during the week.
  • And much more . . .

Each year we hear from families that Summer Music PDX was their child's favorite camp over the summer, even beating out sports camps and outdoors camps.

We have an amazing time and learn lots of great music - this is motivation that will keep your child excited to play their instrument all year long.

Sessions Offered

We have sessions for String students, woodwind students and vocal students.

90% of our students stay full day, but half day options are also available when you register.

We meet in smaller groups in the morning and then work as a big combined ensemble each afternoon. It's a good blend of being part of something big and exciting and also getting a chance to work in a small group setting-all in the same day.

What Summer Music PDX parents are saying:

"I'd like to share with you how impressed I am with the violin camp! At the beginning, I was a little bit uncertain about how it would turn out because my son was not really excited about it but agreed to give it a try. And it turns out he really enjoys it!! He told me he likes it even more than last week's basketball camp (I never imagined he would say that ). I can tell that he feels the challenge of being in the same group with the older kids and he likes it very much!  I've never seen him so motivated with violin because he even practiced on his own at home after a full day camp!! Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sign my child up for camp if they are a beginner and want to learn an instrument for the first time?
Summer Music PDX is a orchestra/band camp where students with basic skills on their instrument and basic note reading skills (up to intermediate/advanced level) play together in a group setting. We do not have any programs for beginning students at this time. We do encourage you to come back in a future year to join us once your child has started their instrument!

How can I make camp affordable for my family?

We strive to make camp as affordable as possible while hiring excellent staff and renting great facilities. You can reduce your tuition by taking advantage of our early bird discount and sibling discounts. We also have a refer-a-friend promotion this year where you can earn up to $100 towards camp by referring NEW families that sign up.
We will also work with your family to take payments toward your tuition from January - June 1st to help make it easier to attend. Please don't hesitate to contact us to work out a payment plan if needed.

Is my child too young/old to attend camp?
Answer: We take instrumentalists from ages 7-16 and vocalists from ages 10-16 in camp each year. Students will be rehearsing for a number of hours each day (with lots of fun games in between) so they do need to be able to sit and concentrate as part of an ensemble. Your child's teacher will likely know if they are ready for this type of experience or not.
We have music available for intermediate and advanced students at each week of cam. We strive to make sure each student is challenged and learns something new during camp and often have solo parts for more advanced students involved. We do invite students 16 and over who are interested in leadership experience to contact us about apply to be a camp counselor.

Why is the age for vocal sessions 10 & up?
Answer: Our vocal director Jeff Evans specializes in working with middle and high school choirs and we have tailored our program at Summer Music PDX with his specialty in mind. We may offer programs for younger vocalists in the future but for this year sticking to this age as a minimum is how we can best serve our campers.
